There is something resoundingly special about the game of baseball, it's often been called romantic and nostalgic.  Players don't have to be of a certain "type" to play this game as in other sports.  You can be on a personal hot or team winning streak one week, and immediately down the next and never figure out why.

Yesterday, the Wethersfield 10-12 All Stars experienced all of that in a thrilling yet heartbreaking 2 - 1 loss to Madison, eliminating them from Sectional play, thus ending their season.  Playing in mid July steamy temperatures the team needed a win to advance to the championship game and they played determined from the start. In what turned out to be an epic pitcher's duel both teams played quickly and flawlessly for three innings. In the top of the 4th, Wetherfield took it's first lead of the Sectionals going up 1-0 on a wild pitch. Just as quickly, Madison came back to tie the score again in the bottom half, and they headed to the final two frames. After a quick 5th, in the top of the 6th Wethersfield had runners on first and second, but Madison dug in and prevented our boys from putting a run across to take the lead. Then in the bottom of the 6th, with two outs and a runner on second, Madison drove in the winning run in dramatic fashion, and just like that the season was over.

There are no more team practices, no more games, but there is tomorrow. In baseball, there is always tomorrow. For the majority of these players, they have played their final Little League game and we will watch them move on, playing on the big field. As parents and coaches, there is something very special to us as we watch the innocence and joy of our children playing Little League baseball.

To the parents, families and friends - WE THANK YOU!  You have been there for the boys from day one. Every practice, every game. Cheering and supporting each and every boy with every pitch, every high and every low. You have been such an important part of this team.

To the Coaches - WE THANK YOU!  You have given of yourselves unselfishly.  You taught the boys a tremendous amount about the game of baseball, yet at the same time, shared with them how this game transcends into life.  They may not understand it now, but one day down the road they will.

To the Players - You are an amazing group of young men. They represented the league and community, and most importantly each other proudly and respectfully. They committed themselves to the team and each other from day one, watching the joy they had playing with and supporting each other; this truly was a TEAM.

To Aiden, Alex, Cam, Christian, Cooper, Ethan, Jonathan, Justin, Max, Owen, Sean, Zach and Zach - WE THANK YOU!

The season is over, but this is baseball .....   There is always tomorrow

Come Out To Support 12-U All Stars

Come Out to Support the 12-U All Stars as they Play in the first round of the Sectional All Star Tournament Tommorrow Night, Friday July 19th, in Killingworth

Game Time is 5:30pm at Irene Sheldeon Park,

Killingworth vs District 10 winner, Mystic

Lets Go Wethersfield 12-U All Stars!

For the first time since 2013, Wethersfield Little League's 10-12 year olds, are Distrcit 7 Champions.

After finishing round robin play as the top seed with a record of 7 - 1, the boys took care of business in the crossovers and championship outscoring their opponents 21 - 2, including a dominating performance in the Championship game in front of a packed house of screaming Wethersfield fans. Ending the game after 4 innings with a 13 - 0 victory.

The dugout was focused and loud from the first pitch, jumping on Cromwell pitching and defensive miscues. Taking a first inning lead the boys started pressing down on the gas peddle, nevel looking in the rear view mirror.  They weren't just hitting the ball, they were crushing it, from the top of the order through every player, balls were flying all over the field.  Running the bases with aggressive intelligence, unnverved defensive and a dominating pitching performance made sure the game was never in question.

When the final pitch was thrown, the boys celebrated together in front of the mound; the same way they have played together all tournament... As a TEAM.  The coaches had a chance to take a deep breath and smile, knowing that the boys saved their best game of the season (so far) for this night. Watching them enjoy and celebrate the results of each boys (and coach's) hard work and commitment over the last five weeks.

Now they move on. Playing in a three team sectional series against Madison and Mystic. Each team playing the other with the top two teams advancing to the Sectional Championship game and the opportunity to advance to the state Championship series.  First game is Friday 19th, 5:30 at Irene Sheldeon Park, Killingworth vs Distric 10 winner, Mystic.
